Mary, did you know?
That your baby boy was God incarnate?
John, did you truly understand
That the child you baptized was the Maker of the universe?
Did His brothers in the natural even know at first?
And the apostles—when they followed—did they perceive the weight of His glory?
This was He foretold in the garden:
“Your seed shall bruise the serpent’s head.”
He, of whom the prophets prophesied—
To whom belonged the throne and sceptre of David.
Yet He was before David,
And David called Him Lord:
“The Lord said to my Lord…”
Christ, the Son of the Living God.
The Word who was with God from the beginning.
The Light and Image who reveals the Father.
The Wisdom and Power of God.
The Eternal Word.
By Him all things were made,
And without Him, nothing was made that was made.
All things were made for Him—
To bring Him pleasure and glory.
Yet He emptied Himself of deity,
Took on the form of a servant,
And walked the earth as an example—
A new kind of man.
Then, as a sacrifice:
He shed His blood,
His body broken,
And descended into hell,
Where He made a public spectacle of Satan.
He rose again—the firstborn from the dead,
A new kind of being.
He ascended, not alone,
But with His body—the Church—
That she might fill all things in Him.
That He might bring us into His fullness,
Into the glory He shared with the Father from the beginning.
That He might have many brethren,
That we might be joint-heirs with Him,
Partakers of His divine nature,
Seated with Him in heavenly places.
He was made the Head of all principality and power—
For our sake.
For the sake of His Church,
His Body,
Whom we are.
In You, Jesus, we find:
Our Being,
Our Essence,
Our Purpose,
Our Identity.
